Born and raised in Mexicali, Esteban is recognized as the best male Mexican professional golfer of all time. Esteban has played in over 710 PGA tournaments throughout his 27-year career and accumulated more than any other Mexican golfer in money list wins. Esteban is at the peak of his career as he has won four events in the last four years and finished in the Top 10, 19 times.
Esteban was a member of the PGA Tour in 1994 and 1998–2004 and has also spent many years playing on the the Ben Hogan Tour, Nike tour, Nation Wide tour, and Web.com Tour. He currently plays in the PGA Tour Champions and the the European Senior Tour.
In 2000 Esteban won the Mexican Open. He represented Mexico in the World Cup in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1998, 2002 and 2006. In 2005 he won the Lake Erie Charity Classic at Peek 'n Peak Resort, part of the Nike Tour. In May 2013, Esteban became the first Mexican to win on the PGA Champions Tour when he won the Insperity Championship. He has since won the 2013 Montreal Championship, The Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach and the 2016 Allianz Championship. Esteban placed 10th at the prestigious 2016 Charles Schwab Cup.
Esteban and his wife Colleen share their time between California and Los Cabos, Mexico where they enjoy long walks on the beach, watching sunsets, snorkeling, fishing and playing golf.
Esteban is a big supporter of Mexico's national soccer team. His favorite athlete is the boxer, Julio Cesar Chavez.
